3GB is what I have. IIUC it will also boot if you put 4GB, but only 3GB
will be accessible.

The last time I heard about "largest supported disk" was a very long
time ago. Are such problems still current? In any case, any available
2½" SATA drive should work fine in there.

I have a Vortex II there, works fine. Only issue: the T60 has a weird
SATA connection that goes through a SATA->PATA->SATA conversion for
reasons that escape me. In any case, what this means is that you won't
get more than 130MB/s from your SSD drive, no matter how fast it is.
hdparm does report around 130MB/s for my Vortex, so the theoretical
limit is pretty much the same as the practical one. And the bandwidth
limit has no negative impact on the kick-ass low latency of an SSD
drive, of course.
