Hello,

I have read a few complaints that have said that Lenovo adds too much software
to ThinkPads--not third-party "shovelware" and trials, but too many ThinkVantage
utilities.

That said, in the past year I have purchased both a W510 and an X120e. I have
not had any problems with them due to using the preloaded OS or having the
ThinkVantage software installed, although I disable programs and services which
run on startup if I'm not going to be using them for most of my computing
sessions.

If you decide to go with the preloaded operating system, I would suggest that
you make the recovery discs immediately and then test them by performing a
wipe and restore from them. That way you will know that they work okay before
you have invested any time configuring the ThinkPad. Also, if they don't work,
I am sure Lenovo will send you a replacement set.

Hi all,

Just wondering what the current state of conventional wisdom is -- for
a new X220, use Lenovo's Windows build, or clean install from scratch?

I've traditionally performed clean installs with previous Thinkpads,
but I'd be happy to spare myself the hassle if the preload is
basically "just as good" -- curious to know what folks here think.
