I just bought a used T60 XP for my son and am having some problems. I
believe the seller did some over-vigorous reinstallation of software and
now the machine appears not know its type.

1) System Update gives Error 75 and from here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo-ibm/157733-thinkvantage-system-update-error-75-a.html
this seems to be related to a bad model number in the registry. I renamed
those folders mentioned in that article but after reboot the bad old model
number "TP-79___" reappears. Maybe it is being picked up from the BIOS.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I recall installing a BIOS asks if I
want to change model number. Is that a clue on how to tackle this?

1) The WLAN wireless is not visible in Device Manager or in Fn-F5. Could
this be a side-effect of the first problem or something different? I have
not yet opened the machine to look for a wireless card but I believe one
is present - the seller appears to be naive but not dishonest.

Thanks.
