You can use any sata disk in any sata using Thinkpad. I've done
that personally with a maxtrix of at least 6 thinkpads and at least
8 different disks. To their credit, the only thinkpad I know of which
balked at some disks was the older t43, which only complained; it
was still usable.
The same holds for SSDs, from what I've been able to see. I've yet
to see an SSD that didn't work in a thinkpad.
