I do not hesitate in making such a request because I

I look forward to your collective wisdom.

Thank you.

I'm writing this on a W500. I've had this one since 11/09, and its
been pretty good. The build quality has been as good as anything
these days. There is a problem with some of them where a bios
update results in a 10 minute time-out during the boot sequence,
which IBM will fix, if you can spare it for a few days, as I haven't.

But thats the only problem I know of. This laptop is active about
22 hours a day so it gets a lot of use. There are two graphics
cards, an ATI and Intel(?) so its open-source friendly. It's a big
of a power hogg, but with a new battery I can get almost 2
hours with it.

The screen is very good. Sadly this does not have an LED back
light, so after 3 years the fluorescent tube is a little uneven
when getting bright, but fixes itself in a minute or so.

The earphone jack is on the front which I find a little weird, but
isn't a big deal. The three usb ports are on the left side, which
is useful, as is the ethernet jack. The docking station I have
brings out a serial and parallel port as well as video and 4 more
usb ports.

I really love this laptop. Despite its weight, its a great smallish
workstation.
