Hello,

I was considering getting the T420s to replace my T61. I want a new laptop
with USB 3.0 and the choices are limited. I saw reviews that commented that the
T420s screen was a little too glossy. I would like the same type of screen as
the T61 or maybe go with a IPS screen.

I decided to wait for the Ivy Bridge models due out in a few months. It
appears there will be a T430. A couple of Thinkpad Edge E430 and E530 models
are in the current PSRef. Intel delayed release of the CPUs so I have to wait
another month or two.

I did buy a 256GB OCZ Octane SSD yesterday to replace the 128GB OCZ Vertex in
the T61 as I am running out of room. I also upgraded the T61 to 8GB of memory
and it breathed some new life into the laptop.

I noticed the local Microcenter has some refurbished T61 laptops for $250. The
one on display had a Intel vPro sticker so likely has the Intel 4965AG. It
looks similar to a 8889-02U or 8890-26U with an extra 1GB of memory and Windows
7.

Subject: [Thinkpad] New T420s

I received a T420s the other day. Lovely thing, not quite as thin/light as a
Mac Air, but still way nicer than my T410. 4 pounds, 3/8 oz with battery (vs. 5
pounds 1¾ oz for the T410).

Since the recovery partition is taking 15GB of the precious 160, I decided to
burn recovery CDs and use Partition Magic to recover the space.

It took *ELEVEN* DVDs for the recovery disks!!! I decided to burn a set for the
T410 at the same time, and it only took five. That's a lot of crapware!

Oh, I also uninstalled the pre-installed Norton, and of course it left
droppings, including a tray icon. Nice job, that. They should be ashamed of
themselves. Wow, I guess they are - Googling "completely uninstall Norton"
found the Norton Removal Tool, which I just ran. Great, and that broke the
fingerprint reader.

To be continued.
