In Explorer, go to Tools->Settings and find where file associations are done. At the top of the list are protocols. You should be able to find the mailto: protocol handler and add an entry to it for your mail client. It's surprising that there isn't already one though, as it should have been set up by the application installer. Check forums for your mail client.
