Hey, I just commented THRIFT-356 :-) I'll submit a patch tomorrow... unless 
Alexander doesn't beat me to it ;-)

The patch is complete and we've been using it for a while, but the problem is 
that it depends on THRIFT-301, which needs a review.

I don't think THRIFT-311 is committable, it's just a prototype that I wrote to 
generate some discussion and as a starting point for an asynchronous port, 
and to support Windows. I think it would be ok to commit if we had a separate 
directory for contrib stuff.
