You wouldn't notice the difference in terms of performance. But it would 
add a lot of complexity to the whole thing, which is not really worth 
it, if you take into account that most probably less than 1% of the 
users will actually use tabs. I consider tabs in a file manager a rather 
"advanced thing". Atleast for 1.0, I'd recommend people to use less 
simple file managers, like Konqueror, if they need tabs in a file manager.
