I have had the 'bad vibes' problem now for a week as well, sending or receiving. Like you (kwhitefoot), I wasn't able to send email from the website either. I think this has to do with the changes they've made not working well with Linux (Unbutu)/Firefox. However, it does work via the web site now.
For me, the Webmail-Hotmail add-on was working as of 24 October. When I returned from vacation on the 31st, it wasn't. I updated to b44 (the latest at the time; has it changed again?) and still have the NETSTAT/bad vibes problem.
