I don't know why, nothing was downloaded from "Friends", I'd guess that 
it would be critical that spelling and capitalization matched the name 
of the folder in Hotmail, but apart from that obvious point, I've no idea.
Adding "Friends" to the Hotmail extension POP options won't 
automatically create a matching folder in Thunderbird. You have to do 
that yourself. You will also need to create a filter to move the 
messages to this folder. When the extension downloads mail from a folder 
on Hotmail it adds a header something like, "X-folder = Friends" to the 
message, you can set up a filter in TB to look for this header and move 
messages containing it to any desired folder.
