The only valid server name to use with these extensions is localhost (or its numeric equivalent 127.0.0.1). Without that the extension is not invoked at all. Free Yahoo accounts in the US are not provided with any server names to be used. The purpose of the Yahoo extension is to retrieve Yahoo mail from the Yahoo Web mail store and convert it into a POP mail stream that can be accepted by Thunderbird so that's why your Yahoo account in Thunderbird is a POP account.
You are most probably using the latest interface with Yahoo on the Web so it seems you have already selected the correct option in the Yahoo extension with the Beta Website. One other setting that is important and no covered in your post. The communication between Thunderbird and the extensions works solely an completely inside your computer and for it to work you must *not* have selected a secure connection in the Yahoo account in Thunderbird. The setting should be No/Never. I hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.
