Sounds to me that you have your Hotmail account SMTP entry set as your default in Thunderbird. That is fine for your Hotmail account.
If you want your Yahoo account to have its own SMTP entry then you need to set up an SMTP entry in Thunderbird for your Yahoo account (just as you did for your Hotmail account). Then you need to make sure that in the "Account Settings" panel of your Yahoo account you have selected the Yahoo SMTP server as one to be used for your Yahoo account. I have assumed that this will make sense to you. I apologize if I have been unclear. If you prefer that I expand further to assist then please advise.
