thanks for the history.  I have now seen one Hotmail account with an
identical history and another with almost the same,

Both were exhibiting the 298 errors (negative vibes) from the Hotmail
extension for a period (days) and both are now working again perfectly
well with the Hotmail extension.

This "the problem just went away" is rather unusual - we will have to
see what happens next.
