I have been fighting this retrieval error for sometime, read every web page I think and nothing worked,'til I found this, it works!
Amazingly it's listed to fix other email programs specifically but works for Thunderbird as well. You have to sign up for free to route your yahoo mail through izymail. This is not spam or a scam it works. I think it works because yahoo keeps changing their settings to keep ahead of ypops and routing it through another web based mail it defeats yahoo fighting ypops. Ypops is still configured as it always was, the ingoing and outgoing mail settings change in Thunderbird's settings to pull from izymail.
