Jim, thanks for sharing that. In fact, I already use the IMAP capabilities of Thunderbird for two of my aol email accounts. However the third, is handled differently by AOL and the consequence is that it is not reachable via an IMAP enabled mail client. Now it is possible that last Monday (when I started having this problem AOL made a change to allow this particular class of account to be reached via an IMAP client but I rather doubt it. I think the issue is that for free AOL accounts, AOL wants to make sure that the user comes in via a www browser so that AOL can use the white space for advertising. Allowing the user to use an IMAP mail client for these accounts would defeat that purpose.
