Thank you very much for your detailed and informative reply.  Your
point about employer firewall is very useful.  I plan to use Portable
ThunderBird to give myself the ability to access my accounts from work
and home at using the same application.

I will give a shot soon and set that server option from the get go so
that no messages get deleted.
