No extension needed. You need to go to the settings page on Gmail and 
enable IMAP, there's a link from the settings page with instructions on 
how to set your email client to use IMAP. The first time that TB 
connected after setting up it labelled all the mails in Gmail's archives 
to match my inbox folders. Since then they've just stayed in sync, for 
example, I marked a mail as spam on the web site, by the time I switched 
back to TB it had gone from the inbox.
