These extensions play absolutely no part in the decision to delete mail on the server. The rules of the POP protocol are followed whether you use these extensions or the POP servers provided by Hotmail. The decision is made by the settings you select in Thunderbird.
If you select the option in Thunderbird to delete from the server when deleted in Thunderbird then a message is flagged for deletion by Thunderbird when you choose to delete it (on any POP account). The decision cannot be "unmade". Even if you move it from the Trash folder back to the Inbox in Thunderbird it will still remain flagged for deletion from the server. The existence of a message in the Trash folder or clearing the trash folder in Thunderbird has no effect on the above process. Hotmail does provide free IMAP services on every Hotmail account but to get free IMAP services you must use Microsoft Outlook or Windows Live Mail as your mail client using the Microsoft proprietary DeltaSync protocol. There are no standard IMAP servers for Hotmail and not likely to be.
