If you install Thunderbird 3 and then use the account setup wizard to install Hotmail as you first account then Thunderbird will set up the free POP/SMTP servers now provided by Hotmail (and frequently reported in this forum). By the very strict rules of the POP3 protocol only messages from the mail server Inbox can be downloaded to Inbox of the mail client. There is no recognition of the existence or any other folders on the server and messages on the server have no status other than they exist or they do not.
If Thunderbird 3.0 has set up your Hotmail account and you now want to use the Webmail extensions you will need to take the following steps: Since you are on a Mac - in the mail Webmail extension make sure that you have chosen 2 port numbers greater than 1024 for the POP and SMTP servers. In Thnderbird for the Hotmail account: Set the POP server name to localhost Make the POP port the same that you chose in the main Webmail extension. Set the connection security to none If you want to send mail via the extension (probably best to stay with the free Hotmail SMTP server unless you have a good reason to change). Set the SMTP server to localhost Make the SMTP port the same that you chose for SMTP in the main Webmail extension Set the connection security to none. Finally - the Webmail Author has reported that for these extensions to work with Thunderbird 3 is is necessary to make a config change.
