THanks for the patch. Here's what happened.
1. I disabled the old AOL/Netscape plugin and installed the new b1
version.
2. I selected 'get mail' for that account. and got the message: "There
are no new messages on the server." Hurrah ! or so I thought.
3. I then signed in to my account using my browser, checked that there
were indeed no new messages . (There were none). THen, from the
browser, I sent a test message to myself, and waited till it showed up
in the inbox. Then I signed out of the account.
4. I then reopened TB, and tried to retrieve the test message. TB want
me to enter the password again, which I did, and checked the box
marked Use Password Manager to remember the password. No dice. I got
the error messag: :
"Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server locahost responded:
Login failed".
5. I then tried using TB to send another test message to myself. TB
then asked for the password again (which I thought was odd given I had
just entered it when trying to get the first test message and had
checked the box asking Password Manager to remember it.) I also
rechecked the remember password box. No dice. I got the error
message:
"Sending of message failed.
The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server
localhost failed. The server may be unavailable or refusing SMTP
connections. Please verify that your SMTP server setting is correct
and try again, or elde contact your network administrator."
6. I then went to Tools/Options/Privacy/Passwords and clicked the Edit
Saved Passwords button to get into Password Manager. There were no
entries listed. I found this od as well, given I had requeste Password
Manager to remember the password twice.

I have been as specific as possible about the sequence of actions to
assist in debugging, given you have been good enough to write a patch
which on the face of it worked first time around. I would look at the
log files as well, but don't know how to do this - if someone would
n't mind posting a link or a howto for that, I'll be hapy to oblige.
My conclusion sofar is that there is something broken in Password
Manager as well as any problem with the AOL plugin. I suspect that the
two problem areas are interacting in some way. Certainly a common
thread in the access problems I have seen on the main forum indicate
repeat system requests for password entry even when it has been
enetered and stored. Hope all the above helps track this problem down.
