That you must doesn't read quite as I intended. What I meant to say is
that you must use the New Yahoo Mail.

You must be using the "New Yahoo Mail" on the website, the extension
doesn't support "Classic Yahoo Mail". This is a common cause of failure.

Okay that at least got the yahoo extension to see my account. Now,
however, I am getting the dreaded "Sending of password did not

If you're using pop.mail.yahoo.com, you're not using the extension.
You're trying to use Yahoo's POP server which is only available to
holders of "paid for" Yahoo accounts.
As Eugene says, your user name should be your full email address
(Thunderbird defaults to just putting the bit before the "@" in).
Server settings for the POP server should be;
Server name: localhost
Port number: 110
Connection security: None (localhost is a virtual server running on
your
computer a secure connection would be meaningless)
Authentication method: Password transmitted insecurely

It probably that you need to enter your full email address as username
on the server setting page of the yahoo account that you have setup.
(ie. [email protected]) The webmail extension looks at this to
decide which add-on to use.
One other note as of today I am receiving "The error, LaunchFFC-1,
occurred when trying to connect to Yahoo! Mail". This a server error
at Yahoo and they are working on it to get it fixed. It currently
affecting two of my three accounts. At least they are my new accounts
and are not in much use yet other than my testing phase here.

After a major hard drive disaster (complete wipe) I installed Vista
Ultimate along with Thunderbird 3.1. I have managed to get both gmail
accounts working, one hotmail account working and both paid accounts
working. However, I have on free yahoo account that isn't working. I
installed the web mail extension first version 1.3.11b1 and then the
yahoo extension version 1.4.7. I then created the account in TB. The
yahoo extension says there is no account found and if I should
attempt
to download I get the proverbial "Sending of password did not
succeed.
Mail server pop.mail.yahoo.com responded: invalid user/password"
alert.
