I use the GMail extension at work because my employer's firewall blocks TB's attempts to get at the GMail POP server.
It sounds like you're saying that the firewalls don't block IMAP - otherwise, IMAP wouldn't help much. I tried to setup IMAP just now, but TB says it can't find the settings for my account. Is it possible that the firewall blocks IMAP just as much as it blocks POP? If so, it would seem that the extension is still valuable to people who want to access GMail from behind a corporate firewall.
