Same Problem for me. Downgraded to v. 14 , where the webmail addon is 
working flawlessly. Running Ubuntu, it is convenient to freeze the package 
version:

echo '<package name>  <option>' | sudo dpkg --set-selection

where <package name> and < option> are:
thunderbird   hold
thunderbird-globalmenu hold

which is recommendable so you can ensure that all addons are compatible 
before doing the updates. You can force the update with 
 sudo apt-get install <package name>
