Where in the old code was the check for this 'enabled' status? I don't
see it anywhere in code removed for the cited changeset. Furthermore,
checking

also does not illustrate that a check was ever performed for afterRender()
in the past as well.

Since I cannot easily identify how this changeset broke functionality,
could you please provide a test case or code that succinctly illustrates
the break in functionality between 7885 and 7886.
