b) is multiple directory so special ?

As you know the former can be done by editing /dev/pub. On the other hand,
the later can't by "normal way".

really? do you think current situation is as you say?
If only relation on the pub directory in current build system prevent you
from implementing this enhancement, this issue should be not "wontfix".
