Though not really an expert, but here an example of an embedded background image in a stylesheet. The theme switch is accessible in the options panel: http://www.zrenard.com/tiddlywiki/tiddlywiki.html#Ectopolis1 I think it would be good to use stylesheet transclusion in this case.
