I realized that a description of how things "fall apart" might help.
The search plugin adds a slider under the search box that has three
check boxes: text, tags and title. Which check boxes are selected
determines what is searched. If none are selected, an alert window
appears telling you that you need to select at least one. I have also
enabled incremental search to start with 1 character entered into the
search box. I let the results appear in the default manner. It all
works well locally. When served, none of the if statements seem to be
matching, but I can verify that the check box values are correct and
accessible. I have no idea why this is not be working (I was lucky
enough to get as far as I did!!)...
