Why though? I say keep it simple and do the opposite. In fact, three lines 
of code - that's pretty much what it takes to show backlinks. For three 
lines to become over I don't know 1000 with a whole bunch of plugins and 
themes that's just not in the spirit of tiddling and general modular 
approach to development of software. But to each their own and I commend 
David for his initiativ and actual execution! Even if I disagree with the 
actual method. In fact, I'll stop bashing and create my own plugin.
