I have been using main puppy, puppy 4.3 for many months now. I have installed it on a 4GB kingston pen drive and I love it. I have used ubuntu for a some years now and I switched over to puppy because I specifically wanted a pen drive linux which ran fast. And no OS is faster than puppy because it runs COMPLETELY in ram. There is an SFS file which is read and saved every boot up and power off, this contains all the softwares installed and data files created by the user. In order to keep my boot up fast I dont save heavy files in my- documents. Instead I save it in /mnt/home which point to base pen drive storage along with other OS files. Although I shall certainly use ubuntu or some other full desktop linux in future but puppy is certainly very charming. The standard puppy is just 100 MB! what more can one wish for? I just took a cursory count and found my puppy has more almost 100 application softwares! Can you believe it? You name it and it has it.
As far as browser is concerned I have FF3.5. Sea-monkey is default puppy browser and is certainly faster than FF. But i am in habit of using firebug, colorzilla and download-helper. Besides FF is the only browser(leaving aside IE which I hate) which can render Indic (indian languages) text correctly. Even Sea monkey disappoints me at this. Firefox renders Indic languages especially my mother tongue Punjabi perfectly. For typing in Punjabi I have installed SCIM package which also works fine. Both Sea-monkey and Firefox are happy to run Tiddlywiki, they never complain, unlike Opera.
