Jeffrey
I love the simplicity of TiddlyWiki and I would like to use it as the
*gateway* for all my files and research.
Good idea , If it were only a gateway - a logical organising tool I think
plenty of room.
As I expect that I will be gathering a rather large file with many
Tiddlers I would like some advice on how to proceed.

Questions:
Is there a maximum reasonable size for a TiddlyWiki?
Very dependent on content, type. I have thousands of tiddlers and use 7MB +
which is more than 7,000,000 characters
Is it best to create several related or included files?
If there is a logical way to do so, taking consideration of import, export,
temporary, attach, external tiddlers, I recommend related files for large
quantity or volume items you can always export older items, or use an annual
tiddlywiki etc....
If I create several separate files is it possible to have them (the
tiddlers from) display
with different colors in the Primary File?
Good Question, possibly
What kind of issues do I need to take into consideration that I might
not yet be aware of?
There are good tips for large files and performance available, and things
like less backup plugins make a big difference
I think the issue is knowing your data and it's relationships and what you
really need to do, perhaps your research falls into clear area and
catagories that need not be together.

-- Don't want to discover later that I should have done things
differently, as data entry and references become extensive and
difficult to export and rebuild.
A good guestimate of your content size and number would be a halpfull guide
here,
Also, if there ever was a tool to "lift a data model up by it's boot straps,
tiddlywiki is it. Export and rebuild is not a problem if you are smart with
your tags and data.

If you have not found an easy way to do it with TiddlyWiki, you have missed
something.
