I usually download a new empty tw. Then I import tiddlers from the "old" TW. I'm not very fond of automatic upgrades on any level: OS, browsers or TW... I like to be in control of the upgrade process, therefore I always start from scratch - if at all possible... Upside: I always have a backup. (OS, browser or TW) when I'm finished upgrading, - should it turn out that an upgrade broke the system.. Downside: A few extra mouse clicks - and you have to plan each step.. (disable automatic updates to the browser - have a separate home- partition when using Linux and manually rename TWs..)
