After poking at this for a few more days, I have almost everything as I would like it. Setting a few colors, however, are eluding me.
- the foreground and background of blockquotes - the background of the sidebar that lists the recently edited tiddlers - the background of the sidebar that contains "search", "close all", "permaview", etc This is all on a pretty much vanilla TW, created a few days ago.
