Hi Kev, I understand right, you are asking why you have two tiddlers, correct?
Well, you are right that for a single custom search you can spare the generic approach and directly use the "Google Search" tiddler replacing each occurence of $1 with your google search ID. However, if you should ever want to use a second custom search you'll probably be better of with the more generic approach using transclusion. So, as you said... the proposed "Google Seach" tiddler acts indeed more like a "Template" whereas the tiddler whereever you embed the template merely implements it, almost like calling a macro. Perhaps calling the template tiddler "IncludeGoogleSearch" or the likes would clarify all of this. However, I would not call it GoogleSearchPlugin since people might jump to the conclusion of tagging it "systemConfig" which eventually will break the whole thing.
