Hello H.A.S, I'm no TW expert, I only discovered it a couple of weeks ago, the conclusion I came to after a couple of hours of investigating was:
TW5 is not even at the beta stage of its development, and is therefore an unwise choice for your college work because it is likely to change before the stable release, with possible consequences to how your work is rendered. My advice would be to download TW 2.8.1 and use a MathJax plugin from http://www.guyrutenberg.com/2011/06/25/latex-for-tiddlywiki-a-mathjax-pluginor http://tiddlyspace.com/bags/oxkunengroup_public/tiddlers/PluginMathJax%20v1.3, and enjoy the plethora of stable and well tested plugins that are out there for TWC. This will of course change in the future, but for now I'd restrict TW5 to non-critical work.
