Hi Ted, Sean, As it says on tiddlywiki.com, the new version 5.0.x-beta isn't fully backwards compatible with TiddlyWiki Classic. Upgrading existing TiddlyWiki Classic documents to the new version isn't recommended yet. I'd suggest exploring the new version on a small project before attempting to upgrade.
As you've noted, tiddlers from TiddlyWiki Classic import as monospaced blocks. To get them to display as wikitext you need to flip the tiddler into edit mode, and change the type dropdown to "TW5 wikitext (text/vnd.tiddlywiki)".
