As there are so many complains(?) about TWs documentatin, I thought I'd take a look at it.
I have to admit: The documentation for a newbie isn't good. If you go to http://tiddlywiki.com you'll first see the "HelloThere" tiddler which does not explain too much for someone not knowin TW yet. Next we have the "GettingStarted" tiddler which quickly explains the different ways to download and save changes. Nothing yet about what TiddlyWiki is good for. Then we have a tiddler about "Upgrading". Now… That we have scrolled a third of all the text presented after loading, we come to the "Features". This might be seen as a quick overview what can be done with TW. After that we have a list of the "Docs". This is the worst for a newbie, I think. Let's see… The headline looks promising How to use TiddlyWiki5 - Adding a Twitter Follow button<http://tiddlywiki.com/#Adding%20a%20Twitter%20Follow%20button> Sure? I mean… Really? Is THAT what's TW5 is for? - Building TiddlyWikiClassic<http://tiddlywiki.com/#Building%20TiddlyWikiClassic> Hmmm Why would I want that? - How to build a TiddlyWiki5 from individual tiddlers<http://tiddlywiki.com/#How%20to%20build%20a%20TiddlyWiki5%20from%20individual%20tiddlers> - How to use TiddlyWiki5 as a standalone HTML file with AndTidWiki<http://tiddlywiki.com/#How%20to%20use%20TiddlyWiki5%20as%20a%20standalone%20HTML%20file%20with%20AndTidWiki> - Installing TiddlyWiki on Node.js<http://tiddlywiki.com/#Installing%20TiddlyWiki%20on%20Node.js> - Saving on a PHP Server<http://tiddlywiki.com/#Saving%20on%20a%20PHP%20Server> - Saving on Android <http://tiddlywiki.com/#Saving%20on%20Android> - Saving on InternetExplorer<http://tiddlywiki.com/#Saving%20on%20InternetExplorer> - Saving on iPad/iPhone<http://tiddlywiki.com/#Saving%20on%20iPad%2FiPhone> - Saving on TiddlySpot <http://tiddlywiki.com/#Saving%20on%20TiddlySpot> The above is all stuff not explaining what I can DO with TW - Saving with Encryption<http://tiddlywiki.com/#Saving%20with%20Encryption> - Saving with the HTML5 fallback saver<http://tiddlywiki.com/#Saving%20with%20the%20HTML5%20fallback%20saver> - Saving with TiddlyFox<http://tiddlywiki.com/#Saving%20with%20TiddlyFox> - Saving with TiddlyFox on Android<http://tiddlywiki.com/#Saving%20with%20TiddlyFox%20on%20Android> - Saving with TiddlyIE <http://tiddlywiki.com/#Saving%20with%20TiddlyIE> - Scripts for TiddlyWiki on Node.js<http://tiddlywiki.com/#Scripts%20for%20TiddlyWiki%20on%20Node.js> Still nothing… - Setting a favicon <http://tiddlywiki.com/#Setting%20a%20favicon> Very important ;) Let's stop here. The "Docs" start at about the last third of the stuff presented when loading TW5. I think we need something different there. Tell the users what they can really DO with TW and HOW they can do it. Don't you think? Yes, I know… I'm just complaining… I'd like to add to this different documentation. But please let's first hear what YOU think. Or maybe can YOU provide some newbie-compatible introductury stuff which can be put on tiddlywiki.com? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "TiddlyWiki" group.
