I know what are you talking about, but I don't agree to modify core 
components.

Instead you can do something similar what I did in my encrypt tiddler 
plugin (look for it at my website). My widget captures events that are 
raised within its body. You can do the same and enclose the whole story 
river into your widget in the same way the navigator tiddler does.

Take a look at the code and ask me if you have further questions.
