Ahh, it sounds like you're using a one-tiddler-at-a-time display mode. The thing you're asking for is a bit confusing for a tiddlywiki in normal, multiple-tiddlers-on-screen-at-one-time mode. I think that's why you haven't had a lot of responses; it's difficult to see how it would work when there's more than one tiddler open at a time -- what if your wide tiddler is scrolled down off the page? What if you have two tiddlers showing that disagree on how the layout should be? I don't know much about tw5 internals but if you can answer those questions about edge cases, I'd guess that it's not impossible to make a plugin that does the thing you want, but switching the wiki layout based on if a specific tiddler is one of the tiddlers that are open will be a bit of an unusual request I think.
