This is because you are probably trying to edit a field in the current 
tiddler. This causes the tiddler to be refreshed each time you enter a 
character into the editing field, which resets the cursor status so you 
have to click in the editing field again. The way to get around this is to 
use a temporary tiddler to edit.

So,

<$edit tiddler='someTempTiddler' field='myfield1'/> will work.
