Well, it's not enough to just put the offending widget in a template. You need to use templates to ensure that the tiddler being targetted by the edit-text widget isn't a dependency of any of the ancestor widgets, so that updates to it don't trigger a refresh of the branch containing the edit-text widget. I don't know that there's an easy, general solution: it depends on what you're trying to do.
