Hi Nicola, I'm not a developer but I think PMario's answer here https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/tiddlywiki/monspaced%7Csort:date/tiddlywiki/PUqv7MrUOiU/4f81KUB3dX8J may be relevant - I think you need to define your own code style so that wikitext doesn't get suppressed, as it is by the standard mechanism. To use references as part of hyperlinks I think you need to use the <$link> macro instead of wikitext.
