Hi Matt. In my experience it is likely to be an issue with IE itself and how it is set to handle pdfs. Not being an IE user, though, I'm afraid I can't tell you where the setting is. Can you open PDFs from other places with it?
I assume that you are using the latest version of IE? (and you are compelled to use this instead of a more reliable browser?)
