Hi – I have stumbled upon these issues too. This auto color contrast stuff
is not intuitive and not controllable for me.
And it seems to be even more complicated: The cross you can click to remove
tags in edit mode has it's own color (always black?). So in one theme I use
(vanilla with high contrast pallette I think) it became black on black
background (= disappeared).
This is how I fixed it:

color: <<colour tag-foreground>>;
}
