Idea #2. Create a field called, say, "fuzzy" in just the items you want special sorted and copy the date into it.
Then use this sorting parameter: "sort[title]sort[fuzzy]" At least in my test, "sort[title]" will be over-ridden by "sort[fuzzy]" whenever "fuzzy" exists.
