A gulag is a far off place (usually in Sibera) where wastrels are contained under hash conditions. Cut off from the outside world. Talking about their local concerns in a strange way in semi-secret language, honed through long-adaptation to their environment, they learn to survive and cooperate together well. When you join a gulag the learning curve is shallow and slow--it takes time to learn its secrets. Once learned you may thrive. Thoughts from the far-side.
