Rather than CommonMark wouldn't Github Flavoured Markdown (GFM) be a better
aim? Its ...

   1. compliant with CommonMark;
   2. adds tables and other things Markdown does not do;
   3. better services existing TW users who also use GitHub.

The specification comments ...

*GFM is a strict superset of CommonMark*. All the features which are
