It echoes one of the revolutionary qualities of hypertext (and wikis in particular): one can link to tiddlers before they exist, causing the reference to be italicised, and the missing tiddler to appear in the “Missing” list in the sidebar. For some writing tasks, one can use the “Missing” list as a dynamic, emergent todo list. Or one can just skirt around a topic, referencing it but not defining it.
