It seems to me supporting such features from the outset in the core
will bloat the core for everyone, but offering a point of extension
for filter plugins would be great.
I could imagine a filter being implemented as a pair of map/reduce
JavaScript functions, a pattern which is becoming very commonplace in
the NoSQL community.
