Fair point - it seems at least worth considering.
Can you come up with a concise proposal, explaining the goals, rationale
and use cases - preferably also some basic suggestions regarding
implementation?

This particular approach actually risks backwards compatibility, as
users might use this for CODE inline elements (rather than PRE blocks)
in existing tiddlers.
